This was an exciting day for us. We would finally get to drive the RV and hopefully drive home safely. Yesterday was the day we had the hitch put on the Equinox (Burls SUV) and the day we learned about the gears and how to plug things in and how to get the pumps working.
Well, George came over to make sure we were ready.. or I should say, Burl! He had to put all the slides in, unhook everything and get it ready to "roll".
When it was time, you could see Burl was nervous. Not much, but this RV is BIG! I was nervous but knew George was right there and would help him if needed. He started off slow and cautious but after about 15 minutes, he was good to go. He would do just fine driving our new home around the country!
When we came back to Day Bros RV Sales yard, Burl was confident. We would be heading out soon to head home. There was a lot of emptying, filling with propane, making sure everything was okay. It took a couple hours to get it all together and we weren't sure if we'd have time to get home and it still be light.
FINALLY! It was time to head home. Burl has cautious because the wind was horrendous! It was blowing us all over the place! I held on for dear life, not because of Burl, but because there were so many BIG trucks and rigs on the road in this horrible wind! After an hour, I let go of the handlebars to hold onto by the passenger seat. I was feeling okay and he was driving great. I jumped on my iPad and played Spider Solitare until it was time to get off the road to have lunch. There were other RV's in there too, but they kept their engine running. We shut ours off ... don't know why they kept it running! It was cool that we could go to our kitchen table, take out the sandwich meat, condiments and plates right there! We made ourselves a great sandwich with chips and a drink, and headed out again. It was great! From there on out Burl drove like a pro. Only once did I freak out, when I looked up to see where we were and the big truck next to us was close enough to touch! But he moved on or we did, not sure,,, I went back to my spider solitare!!!
When we finally arrived in Ellijay, we brought her to Plum Nelly Campground. They are are the BEST people around to help people who know NOTHING about this type of thing. We brought her into a site and Burl unhitched the car, set out the slides, hooked up the electric, and was just a pro! I was so very proud of him. We had to move stuff from the RV to the car to bring home. In a few weeks, we'll move the permanent stuff to the RV and we'll be on our way. I cannot wait until we can wave good-bye and head out to the journey that lies ahead of us.
We have sold all of our furniture except a bedroom set we no longer need. Victoria is helping to advertise on FB and hopefully it will sell quickly. Our house is becoming empty. Mixed emotions: missing my friends, but happy to head out on a new journey. Can't wait to share our beginning road trip to Massachusetts in June!

London, KENTUCKY here we come...
This is my first "blog" ever so Victoria is showing me how to get it started. I still have 47 days until retirement, but things have begun to happen to start our adventure. So, tighten your seatbeats, and we'll get started!
On February 20th, we left Ellijay, GA for London KY to take possession of our 2008 Damon Tuscany RV. We would stay in London for three days (2 nights) while George from Day Bros. could put the hitch on Burls SUV. We decided to sell my car and pull his car behind the RV for day trips and quick adventures.
The drive was easy and the weather was nice. When we came to the Kentucky line, however, there was snow. Not just a little, but a lot. It looked like God just dumped out a bucked of heavy, wet snow on the trees all around us. I have to thank the DOT for keeping the roads clear for us as our car is not used to large amounts of snow. I took snapshots of the wintry wonderland, but silently prayed London would be clear of snow. This was NOT the case. London, KY had plenty of snow and it was pretty, but very cold. When we drove through the the outskirts to reach our destination, the land was white.
As we arrived at Day Bros RV Sales parking lot, there stood our beautiful RV. The slides were out (one for the bedroom, one for the kitchen and one for the living room) and the hoses and electric were plugged in. We were all set to take possesion of our very own RV! I almost cried!
Now, understand, we had only SEEN this RV on the website. We had purchased a different one earlier but due to new regulations, we couldn't buy that one. This was just received about 3 days earlier and had not even been cleaned up! So we really were surprised at the beauty and hugeness of this one. I had "secretly" named her Delta Dawn, but Burl just calls her the RV.
When we entered Days Bros we received the same wonderful attention and response we always receive from them. They are a wonderful group of people who are dedicated to making the customer feel welcome, at home and important. We were jumping out of our skin wanting to go inside of the RV, so one of the salesmen told us to go on out and George would walk us through. George is a nephew of the owner and one of the nicest "guys" I've met in a long time. He greeted us to our new "home" and explained everything was ready and waiting for us. He didn't know we'd never owned an RV before! What a surprise that was!
He started explaining everything about the RV. There is SO MUCH to know about these things. Just talking about the controls to drive etc. took an hour! Then we got to MY area... everything else! We have a beautiful almost large refrigerator and it looks like cabinetry on the outside. There is a 3-burner stove but not an oven. George quickly explained we had a Convection Microwave that actually bakes the same as a stove! Then he said, 'More cabinet underneath'. He already knew I was concerned about storage/cabinet space. We have a table that seats 2 comfortably, however, the table has 2 leaves to extend it to seat 4! The leaves on this table are exactly like the leaves in my dining room set at home, so it was totally acceptable! Then we went to the couch... with SEATBELTS... and I just laughed! The couch is a sleeper couch with an air mattress! It blows up itself. The people who created this knew older people did not have that much wind! Very comfy for 2 people (guests of course). Then he pulls out the vaccuum that can just be connected with the hose and it goes all 40' of the RV. Love it! The bathroom is one room with a toilet (thats another story), full shower, sink with 3 cabinets and combination Washer/Dryer! There is a lot of space and cabinets in there. They also put in a fan and little air vent you open. They were thinking about Burl there!
The bedroom is awesome! 15 places to put things. Queen size bed, 2 windows (one on each side of the head; a radio/alarm built in, storage Under the bed, large closet.. okay its not as large as mine at home, but it will do.. and a TV.
Burl has always liked the TV to be flatscreen and in the living room, which this one is. It is 42' and placed where we can watch it from everywhere except the bedroom.
There is also the "basement" which I had NO IDEA what that was. But it is the storage compartments under the rig! Lots of them, large and a pull through. That is more of Burls area, not mine as much. We do have a Shower, TV and something else in the basement so when we are outside we can watch tv, clean up, I guess.
We slept in the RV that night and it was so neat to get it ready. There are day/night shades in the windows (and we have a lot of windows). So we have pull the night blinds down, then close the "front windown" shade and the curtains that go around the side of the driver/passenger. We finally settled in (after supper in town and some boring chit chat of how the rig works) and watched movies we had brought. I would love to explain how we get the movies to work from the GPS thingamajig but I can't. Maybe another time.
The bed was comfy, however, I slept in the chair... oh did I mention the two rocker/recliner chairs we have across from the couch? My back can't handle that hard mattress so when we get ready to get on the road, my number bed mattress goes on the bed in the RV.
